Clary sage essential oil is obtained by hydro distillation of the flowering tops of the plant (Salvia sclarea).
Cultivated, harvested and processed in the south-east of France
Clary sage is recognizable by its large leaves and purple flowers. The harvest, mechanized, takes place in July after flowering and the cut parts are left on the field to dry, before being distilled and obtaining a quality called "traditional".
It is after 8 hours that the essential oil is extracted. It will take about 2 kilograms of dried sage to make the equivalent of a 10 mL bottle.
The scent is rustic, aromatic, with honeyed accents.
